■ What is the program about?

At OFIX, we register foreign residents and international students as "supporters" who then visit schools within Osaka Prefecture to take part in cross-cultural awareness education classes. With the aim to deepen the students’ understanding of different cultures, supporters introduce fresh perspectives by talking about their country’s culture and history, introducing traditional dances, performing using traditional instruments, and through other games and activities. For each visit, supporters receive 6000 yen (transportation and tax incl.) as honorarium. For more information, please check out the page below:

  Application Guideline for the 2018 Osaka Invitational Program for Short-Term Overseas Trainees in Architecture and Arts (Ando Program)
OFIX is now accepting applications for the 2018 Osaka Invitational Program for Short-Term Overseas Trainees in Architecture and Arts. This program aims to invite students and young professionals in the field of architecture or arts from countries and regions in Asia in order to help them foster a better understanding of Japanese culture as well as contribute to the development of architecture and arts in their home countries.
Program Period Thursday September 27 to Thursday October 25, 2018 (29 days)
Number of Trainees 8
Requirements Applicants must meet all the requirements as follows:
i )・Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of a graduate school program
(Master’s/PhD) majoring in architecture or related fields, or
・Holding a Bachelor’s degree and also currently working in an
architecture-related field.
ii ) High level of English proficiency to discuss and write about topics
related to architecture. (TOEIC score of 800 or equivalent)
iii ) Must not be over 35 years old at the time of deadline.
iv ) Must be a citizen of an Asian country, currently living in Asia.
(People living in Japan at the time of application or Japanese nationals do not qualify)

  The Osaka Information Service for Foreign Residents (OIS) is looking for Thai, Portuguese and Vietnamese interpreters.
Number of positions Job description Details
Thai, Portuguese and Vietnamese interpreters One person for each language Provide interpretation/consultation in three-way conference calls with callers requesting information or advice, who cannot communicate in either Japanese or English. Calls will be referred to by the OIS, governed by the Osaka Foundation of International Exchange (OFIX).  The 20th International Friendship Festival on Thursday November 23rd (Public Holiday)

The 20th International Friendship Festival will be held by the Participants Support Council of the Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai, which is made up of OFIX and 10 international exchange organizations from Kishiwada city and further south.

During the event, students from the Institute will set up booths to introduce their countries, while organizations from the Council will hold booths for participants to experience Japanese culture such as yo-yo fishing, calligraphy, origami, tea ceremony and kimono dress-up. Additionally, there will be a fashion show showcasing traditional clothes from different countries, a chance to try iaido martial arts, cheerleading and hula dance performances and more.

This year OFIX will set up an “Experience Australia Room” for the first time, where OFIX’s Coordinator for International Relations from Australia will give a mock international understanding lesson.

Entry is free, so please come and enjoy the festival.

 Seeking Participants for the 2017 OFIX International Understanding Education Foreign Supporter Training!
Training Name 2017 OFIX International Understanding Education Foreign Supporter Training
Outline We are looking for foreign residents who want to become OFIX foreign supporters and visit schools within Osaka Prefecture to introduce their countries. We are also holding training for supporters to learn more about our Foreign Supporter Program and how to give high-quality presentations in front of students.
Participants You must register as a supporter to participate in this training.
Additionally, in order to become a supporter you must fulfill the following criteria:
① A foreign resident who is living, studying or working within Osaka Prefecture.
* Depending on one’s status of residence, “permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted” (資格外活動許可) may be required to participate.
② A person who is interested to introducing their country at schools within Osaka Prefecture.
③ A person who is able to give a presentation in Japanese (Equivalent to JLPT N2 or higher)
